Gateway East Pillar

The Gateway and the Streetscapes Committees need volunteers on Saturday, June 20th  from 9AM to 12 noon.  Meeting place is the Gateway Project site at Lincoln Drive and Johnson Street.  Tools, refreshments and supervision will be provided by Gateway and Streetscapes Committee members and Parks and Recreation Volunteer Coordinator David Bower. Volunteers will sheet mulch an area of vigorously growing and unsightly weeds that block views of the east pergola.

Sheet mulching is a process of weed control that involves layering cardboard over weeds and covering the cardboard with a thick layer of mulch.  This smothers the weeds.  It is a more environmentally friendly method of weed control than herbicide use and has been used successfully at other sites.

No experience is necessary, only a willingness to shovel, push wheelbarrows, spread mulch, AND, most importantly improve our community.  You may pick up skills useful in your home garden.

We hope that you will come out to help for a few hours.  The amount of mulch we can order depends on our ability to spread it, so the more help we have, the more we can do.

Please contact Doris Kessler with questions abut the Gateway project and/or to volunteer: doriskessler@me.com or 215.242.0651.

Thank you and best regards,

Doris Kessler and Pat Moran
