President Vanessa Lowe
Vanessa has been a proud resident of West Mt. Airy since 1999. She finds WMAN’s founding story of organizing for intentional racial diversity during a time of white flight to be inspirational, and feels strongly that past work must be remembered and built upon to meet today’s diversity and inclusion challenges. Since joining the WMAN Board in 2015, Vanessa has served on the search committee that resulted in the hiring of our current Executive Director, and also chaired the strategic planning committee that resulted in our Board training this past winter. Vanessa’s background includes 9 years of work in Philadelphia’s non-profit legal services, an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and 18 years with the federal government supporting financial services access for underserved communities. She has served in various capacities with a number of community and civic organizations. Vanessa looks forward to the opportunity to continue working with WMAN to make West Mt. Airy a model of community diversity, safety, and beauty.
Executive Vice President Carol Caswell
Carol has lived in and has truly enjoyed being a WMA resident since 1982. She feels fortunate to be part of such a diverse, friendly, beautiful, and vibrant neighborhood. As she transitions to retirement, after a 45-year career in the corporate world, she is excited about the opportunity to become more involved in the community. As a Board member, she looks forward to engaging with neighbors beyond the immediate neighborhood and to helping to foster the mission of WMAN. She brings business/leadership experience in the areas of strategic planning, execution of change to achieve measurable objectives, communications, and building / sustaining high performing teams to ensure that WMAN continues to thrive.
