40 Good Neighbors

Kate and Tom Deahl

Real neighborhoods require constant maintenance, not just of their buildings and yards, but of their connections among the people who live there.  One Mt. Airy neighborhood has had the good fortune to include Tom and Kate Deahl as long-time residents.  The result is a well-tended sense of community.

Many years ago, Tom organized a Sunday morning walking group.  Anyone interested could show up at 8:30 a.m. for a one hour walk.  Tom was always there.  In the fall, Kate and Tom hold an annual Corn Roast Party for the neighborhood.  Everyone is invited.  During the past year, they have also hosted a weekly Scrabble party for a group of older neighbors.

Tom, who was active in West Mt. Airy Neighbors for many years, is dedicated to bringing his neighbors together.  He and Kate, a retired Philadelphia Public School teacher, are known and appreciated for keeping their neighbors in touch, informed and entertained.
