The Streetscapes Committee
A group of community residents organized the Streetscapes Committee in 2007 out of concern for the health and appearance of Mt. Airy’s public landscapes. Since then, the committee has initiated, and cooperated with other local organizations in projects that address those issues.
THE COMMITTEE IS INVOLVED IN:
- Planting Street and Yard Trees each spring and fall in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s (PHS) Tree Tenders Program. It participates in other planting opportunities as they arise and educates homeowners in caring for newly planted trees. Some photos.
- The Gateway Project to restore a set of pergolas and the surrounding landscape at the intersection of Lincoln Drive and Johnson Street. The project is a joint effort of Historic Germantown, WMAN, Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, Fairmount Park Historic Preservation Trust, Inc., and local residents. Click for more information.
- Assisting neighbors in maintaining landscape improvements initiated by the committee at the intersection of Lincoln Drive and Allen Lane, the Emlen Circle, and the Trolley Car Park.
- Working with the Mt. Airy, Nippon, Bryan, Cresheim Town Watch as the Friends of Allen Lane Station in ongoing negotiations with SEPTA over landscape improvements associated with renovations at the Allen Lane Train Station.
